Hello Readers, Emily here and I am here to discuss my top 10 favorite books of 2017. This year I read a total of 50 books and there were some that were amazing and others that were kind of, well, not so amazing. However, today I am focusing on the positive and sharing my favorite books that I read this year. Without further ado, let’s get started.
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
This may be one of my favorite books of all time. It is rare for a sequel to be better than the first book in a series but Sarah J. Maas nailed it with ACOMAF. The world she created is so unique and I am obsessed with the Seasonal Courts and the Solar Courts. The inner circle is amazing and I wanted to live in the Night Court so badly because if you know me and have seen my computer and dorm room you know that I love the night sky and stars and yeah. Also, the series is like a Beauty and the Beast retelling and omg I just love it so much!!
How To Hang A Witch by Adriana Mather
Adriana Mather blew me away with her books. These books are set in modern times and incorporate a historical element and also a paranormal element. I loved how it follows a girl who is the descendant of Cotton Mather, who is believed to have started the Salem Witch Trials, and how people say she is cursed. She gets help from Elijah, the boy who lived in the same house during the time of the Witch Trials to break the curse. Also, it is really cool how Adriana Mather is the direct descendant of Cotton Mather and wrote a book.
Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins
I picked this book up because my friend Alaina from AnInfinitebookworld recommended it to me. Also, a book series she loves, that I also enjoy, mention it and that meant that I needed to read it. This series is a paranormal trilogy and it follows the descendants of the seven deadly sins. The main character, Anna the daughter of the Duke of Substance Abuse, grew up without knowing about the Dukes and when she finds out about them she wants to banish them from the world. That is a weird description, but it is great and I love it.
White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout
This is another weird book to explain. I love Jennifer L. Armentrout so much she is the queen of paranormal books. Instead of ghosts, vampires, or werewolves, she writes about Aliens and Gargoyles. I don’t think I have read another book that have read a book that includes gargoyles. Roth and Bambi are probably my favorite characters and the ending had me close to tears.
Becoming Alpha by Aileen Erin
This book. Let me tell you. I really enjoy books with werewolves and vampires. This book, however, was addicting. I don’t know why I picked it up, maybe because I have a weakness for werewolves… But I am very glad I did, I feel like this book was fast paced and I enjoyed how she wasn’t always a normal girl, she had the ability to read people’s thoughts when she touches a person. But then she is bitten by a werewolf and she has to go to a boarding school for werewolves and overall I enjoyed reading this.
Winter by Marissa Meyer
Marissa Meyer’s series, The Lunar Chronicles, is probably one of my favorites. I love the idea of fairy tales meets the future with aliens, cyborgs, and plagues. I feel she did an amazing job with intertwining each of the storylines into on major plot. She included four fairy tales, the main one is Cinderella, then Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White. Winter is the final of the series and I feel like Marissa Meyer did a great job at concluding the series.
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
I am not usually a contemporary book reader. I pick up like one per year. This book was adorable, I was intimidated by the size of it but I enjoyed it so much while I was reading it. It follows a girl who is the daughter of a politician, and she was preparing to do this internship. However, a scandal breaks out with her father’s office, she is kicked out of the program. Now she is spending the summer waking dogs. She meets a boy named Clarke who is adorable.
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzgerald.
I am going through an intense craving for paranormal books. This isn’t the best book ever, it is kind of like twilight fanfic to me BUT it was enough to hook me in and left me wanting more. This book follows a girl named Nora who is a straight A student and she meets the mysterious boy named Patch who is a Fallen Angel. I flew through this book because it was kind of silly and after a long semester I kind of want silly books.
Jessica’s Guide to Dating the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey
This is another silly book. I really wanted a cheesy vampire book and this was perfect. It’s not the best book in the world but it kept me entertained and that was what I was looking for. This follows a girl and Jessica who is supposed to be the future queen of the Vampire Dragomir. Her parents left her with a human couple right before they were killed by the villagers. 18 years later the crown prince finds Jessica and is trying to convince her that vampire is real and she is the lost princess. I was very entertained when reading this series, sadly there were only two books/. However, I am glad I read them.
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
This is the 5th book in the Throne of Glass Series and it broke my heart. The ending was very unnecessary. I love these characters so much and I need the next book ASAP.
That is all I have for this post. I feel like I had a great year with reading even with starting with college. Hopefully, I can do more this coming year. My overall goal is to read the books I already own and haven’t read. Leave me a comment on your favorite books of 2017 and hit the like and follow button for more! BYE!!! -Emily
